Are you ready to fall back in love or fall more in love with the English language? Whether you’re in a place where you’re kind of falling out of love with English (or not) this activity is here to help. Learning English can be fun and this activity is here to remind you of that.
Materials needed to get started
Grab a pen and paper because this is really beautiful to do as a written exercise. Although you could also do it verbally.
The best part of this activity is that it’s not something you even have to do in English. You can do it in whatever language feels best to you! Start writing and see what language comes out.
Letter help: Learning English doesn’t always involve English
The activity is simply to write a love letter to the English language.
As you’re writing, I want you to think about what you love about English.
What interests you about the language? What do you find curious, fun, and exciting about English?
We’re just focusing on the positive aspects of learning a language for this exercise. There will be time to focus on other feelings in other moments. 😉
This is a love letter so it’s going to be full of all those things that attract you to the English language.
Don’t skip this part
Then the other part of it is to talk about all of those things that you can do and have done in English.
Thinking back to all the adventures that you have had with the language can help. Learning English involves more than studying, remember the moments shared with others as you used what you learned.
Whether it’s interactions with another person, using specific vocabulary, or grammar points. It doesn’t matter what memorable experiences you choose to include. They are all valid and they all go into your love letter.
Finding your style
You can write this like a letter you would write to a friend or to a loved one. Make it very fun and friendly in your tone of voice.
If a typical letter format isn’t for you, try writing it as a list. The 10 things I love about English. 📝
Maybe you love finding out where words come from or their different meanings. What is it that you love about the English language? Follow those answers with a list of the things you can do, have done, and are looking forward to doing in English.
Keep it somewhere safe
I hope this love letter exercise helps you fall even more in love with the English language and keep the language love alive. 💖
Make sure that you keep your letter as you might enjoy backing on it. In fact, that’s the main reason I’m suggesting it! So, keep it available for those days you’re feeling a little less in love with the language and you can look back and reflect on that letter and maybe you can add more things to it.
Happy writing! I hope it’s a lovely experience for you.
