resolution review

Time to check in with those 2019 goals. My New Year’s language learning goal review.

Halfway through 2019. My oh my, the time has flown right by, hasn’t it?

Here are how my resolutions have adapted over the last six months.

First off, see what my 2019 resolutions are here.

Now that you’re up to speed here is how it’s been going.

I started off following my resolutions and things were going well. In the beginning, I was enjoying learning the languages. Even though I changed them a little in January with this addition, I was having fun with my challenging resolutions.

Then, as April rolled around, life started to get more hectic and because of different travel plans that I knew would be coming up in May, June, and July I decided to put my 2019 motto into action – ‘be kind and be flexible’.

Revised 2019 New Year’s resolutions

Instead of keeping strict resolutions that no longer fit, I changed them a tad. Since May I have switched from studying one language each week to studying one language each month.

July is German. I have checked out a couple of books from the library – a vocabulary book, a grammar book, and a songbook. I had so much success with the beginner French books that I checked out in June, I thought I would try the same thing with German this month.

Rather than watching full-length movies, I’ve been watching FRIENDS clips in either French, German or Italian since May. Which I have to admit has been quite enjoyable!

As for the songs, I’ve still been singing songs in the different languages I’m learning but I haven’t been as diligent with writing them down these last couple months.

I’m happy with how my languages are progressing. I think my happiest language learning moment was speaking French with my father and sister while we were on a cruise together with more relatives. I introduced myself, said some things I like and don’t like, and asked some basic questions. For me, that was a V for victory!

How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions?
